I might as well keep Yukino as Mirai's last name ;D!
Today don't have time to make more than just a test skirt, made it a bit too short tho ^^; so will have to either make a laced edged underskirt or something ^^!

Mirai seems as if she's a bit embarrassed I made her wear a skirt so short ^^;

Mirai poses rather well, and in some pictures her thighs look so realistic o_o;

Some test sewing for Dollfie Dream

So today managed to take a few pix before we loose the daylight ^^; I definitely decided to name her Mirai, after Danny's mascot. ^o^! I kept her in the short wig for now because the wig band for lighter wigs is less likely to stain ^^; Also when I make measurements for pattern etc it's easier.

After taking a few pix, I was like heck might as well try to make her some casual clothes since I would be home most of the day.

Her default lingerie is nicely made but the material they used to make it seems to get snagged easily by the velcro fastening at the back, and also my hands had been kinda dry due to the weather, it's snagging the material too ^^; And also I don't really want to take her out in just her lingerie lol!

I ended up making her a long sleeved top, a skirt (still very rough stages) and pantyhose-- to prevent dirtying or staining her legs. Here's Mirai chan, holding onto the little bear a dear friend made! :D

Such a sweet face <3!

Looking forward to adjust and make other variation of clothing ^^!

I'll just say I was weak :P thanks to temptations from you know who you are.... (LOL) I talked about her a lot to my husband so he kinda okayed it so while he said okay I better get her before he change his mind (LOL)! How to resist this beautiful face?

Being snowed in over Christmas + huge parcel load during the festive season caused a delay for her arrival, but I am really happy that she managed to arrive before the New Year holiday ^O^

Extremely excited when the postman rang the bell while I was doing laundry ^^;

Default wig is hidden behind her in the box, packaged such that it does not get flattened.
When I took her out from her yellow box she looked like this (a text link to a censored nude doll image). No wig and no clothes yet...

Default, very well made lingerie, the frilly underwear is extremely well made too!

I made a test corset from a pattern my friend kindly let me made a copy of from her book...

In case anyone was wondering how did I have so many wigs ready for her? The wigs actually belong to a neglected resin boy doll (a very handsome Yder from eluts.com) I have (still stuck in his box) I'm thinking I'll probably sell the boy's body in future and perhaps invest in a man obitsu body for him ^^; (still not sure just yet, and don't have budget at the moment ^^; )

Currently she's wearing my neglected boy's roughly made shirt. It looks loose and oversized but kinda cute no?
I'll be mucking around with some outfits for her in future! ^^

Vivi in the snow

Before I post photos, I must say this session I had some silly hiccups before I took the photos...

First, I forgot keys to the door, couldn't get out... Then I realised I don't have battery in my camera, and third, I don't have memory card... THEN I realised the battery I took with me from upstairs, was drained... (LOL!!!!) I think there's more stuff which I forgot to do before I could actually successfully take any photos, so I ran up and down the stairs more than 5 times to get everything in order :P

Anyways, hope you like the photos!

When I saw the fabric at Fabricana I had to buy it, today finally I had a little time to make a simple dress, which I call "The Minnie" *grin*

The dress's pattern is sized for Vintage Licca (First generation) I tried it on my Mamachapp (above pictures) too, and it fits as well :D Vivi is wearing re-ment shoes ^^/

And of course I have to let my Licca wear it ^^;

Matches great with Atelier Matin glasses too!

Ichi chan is wearing shoes borrowed from my recent addition *cough* Repro first gen Licca ^^;

My Miss Sally Rice

Miss Sally Rice has special translucent "skin" and pouty lips :) Mine came with a slightly lipsided top lip so I decided to modify it a little ^^;

It's Daisy and Clover! Her current "mommy" dropped her off as a very wonderful surprise last weekend :) I am so happy to have her visit ^O^ They visited in a "capsule box" ;P First look at her again after such a long time! I am bursting with happiness!

Tutorial: Halloween Paper Hand Puppets

Wow time flies, it's Halloween already! I still recall the first Halloween tutorial post which was inspired by puchicollective. :) This year, I have a simple one to share too!

For this small tutorial, you will need to have access to a colour printer (preferably), paper, scissors and craft glue or double sided tape.

This template will fit blythes, Licca and dolls with similar sized hands.

1) Save this template onto your computer, and print it out using a picture editing program.

2) I included a blank outline version so for those who only have a black and white printer can choose to apply their own colours. For this demonstration I will only make 2 hand puppets from the printed colour versions, if you have coloured the other 2 images you can make all 4 at once. If you decided to just make 2 from the coloured version proceed to step 3.

3) Turn the print-out over and have the back facing you, and apply the adhesive (either craft glue or double sided tape) where I have it marked blue on the image as shown below. The main thing is to only glue around the part where your doll is going to stick her hand into.

4) When done applying the glue or tape, fold the glued area onto either another piece of paper, or if the printed paper you have has enough space on the side or bottom, you can fold in the direction as seen fit. Example as seen in image below.

5) When the glue is dried or if you're using double sided tape, cut around the ghost/pumpkin, and carefully open the bottom of the puppet, and your doll is ready to rock it out with her new puppets!

You can have the hand puppets "stand" on their own as minature Halloween decorations too!

Hagu gets a new body

I came across a friend's flickr photo and realised that the obitsu body has a new type of body, and I liked what I saw, so I bought a couple off ebay to sample. ^^

After some thinking, I decided Hagu (my Honey and Clover "fan art" doll) would be the new recipient of the new 25 cm body ^^! Just realised that her blush had faded a bit over time (oops) hope to find time to reapply soon ^^

So here are some comparison pix of the new and old body:
The new body has soft bust and torso, the latter I didn't know about so it was a surprise. My only concern with soft rubber parts is sometime they tend get stained by dark clothing easier. But that hasn't happen yet -- I rarely put dark clothing on my dolls.

My older obitsu body came with a bald head, some neck parts which I never use, and some spare hands, the new body comes with a couple neck parts and a few hands as well. I think the older type of body these days do not come with the head anymore -- from my most recent search on ebay.

Different elbow joints - the new joint is easier to bend for elbows, but for knee it's a bit harder to bend to desired positions.

Side of knee joints - I noticed that the older body has more visible seamlines compared to the new one.

Nendoroids outting

After I read this news article by Danny I really wanted to try to enter, but at present I only have 2 nendoroids... As much as I like figures, I think I cannot justify having a large collection of them just yet, with dolls at least I could make clothing for them, eventually sell some clothing and "pay them off", but with figures... *scratch head*

Nevertheless, I took my 2 nendoroids (I have a third one on pre-order) with me to work at the shop (in a Mall) I help out with once a week, and took some pix! :P Sweet Pastel Ink chan waited with me for the bus ^^ I was a bit early and thankfully bus was on time today. ^^

At da shoppu, there are some of the good smile figures tempting me...

Atelier Matin glasses

I have a lot less time to play dolly this year, but once in a while I really could not resist getting something (usually made by others) for them. It could be also because I feel guilty towards them for not giving them as much attention as last few years, but it certainly is enjoyable to get something nice for them! :P

The mail loots of the day....

Take note, this pair of glasses is extremely tiny! A quick measure tells me it's about 3 cm wide ^^; It is carefully hand made by Matin san, owner of Atelier Matin in Japan ^^/! You can see his works on his Flickr and if you wish to acquire his goods, you can join his yahoo group for latest news. Be warned tho his glasses are very popular, they're always sold out really quick!

I had the great pleasure to meet him when I went for the Blythe Beauty Contest last year :) Too bad I was probably having cold feets so I did not talk to him (and many others) enough ;_;!

Wonderful pink rimed tinted shades :D so exquisitely made!

I personally feel that Matin's work is definitely like the branded goods in the dolly world :) he also made this tiny little Ray gun being held by the custom Blythe in the postcard below :)

By a friend's recommendation that I get dolly*dolly volume 16 for the tutorial, I finally bit by bit completed one which I am somewhat okay with today :P My first doll looks like a piece of doodoo ^^;;; This 2nd one is not entirely completed even, have to add the shoes when I have time ^^; she stands at about 2 and half inch tall ^^/ will make a cute doll for my dolls no?

Elliot (MSD)

Elliot is my hybrid doll, she's MSD size around 43+cm tall (Never really measured).
Her head is Bee-A from Dream of doll her body is Narae, pinky white from Dollfair.com I keep her all wrapped up in a cabinet because too much sun can cause accelerated yellowing to the french resin ^^; Don't get me wrong, I love the translucent feel of french resin but I am not sure if I really want to deal with yellowing and having to change Elliot's body so many times it gets a bit tiring. I hope in future when I actually have some spare cash I can invest in a Utherane Narae body -- not anytime soon tho ^^;

This top's pattern is heavily modified (almost recreated) off the Doll Coordinate Recipe #4's Unoa pattern. I recalled the first couple test pieces were ill fitting disasters :P This book currently discontinued and I won't link to somewhere which the book may get sold out, so please search online if you really want to get a copy.

Anyhows, had an idea for an outfit for a while, so took out some modified patterns from what a year + back and tested sewing :) recreated a pattern to get a base pattern I need (still need some tweaking) This version the area under the chest has a bit too much wrinkles, so I gotta fix that ^^;/

A new friend for Haruhi Nendoroid :P

Today the Nendoroid which pushed me over the deep end arrived....

I present to you, Pastel Ink Nendoroid! ^O^ I preordered Pastel Ink from HLJ, it felt like it took a while for her to arrive, but to be honest, I was just impatient :P

Isn't she painfully cute?! I only watched 1-2 episodes of her anime, but her character design in Nendoroid form is just.... irresistable! (nom on her :P)

I can hear her going "Dechu" in Ebichu voice :P in the picture below lol

My Nendoroid happen to come with a couple booboos despite being pretty carefully packaged =_=

Her left twin tail came off and rubbed against her head o_o;

The hand supposed to hold on to her Lolli (wand really) the hole had a stub I had to carefully shave off with a pen knife ^^;

Haruhi is pleased she's getting a new recruit...

In comparison to Haruhi, Pastel ink can stand on her own a lot easier, due to her shoes ^^; Pastel ink comes with a tiny chair and sitting legs, which I haven't played with yet, but maybe another time ^^/

I put Haruhi temporarily on a roll of toilet paper (haha!) while I fiddle with Pastel ink :P

She of course tells me I am going to die in my sleep tonite :P

Eyes comparison part 2

A few more for comparison purposes.
Another hand painted head with light pink hair, ~~I unfortunately cannot for the life of me remember what head is she~~ She is a parabox neko head ~~-- bought her too long ago and her packaging did not say where she is from (oops)~~, I painted 2 heads for a friend, she picked the other ^^
I think for this attempt the eyes is a bit lopsided :P (and maybe a bit too far apart?) so this poor head is in storage :P I may give her a different type of mouth in future maybe the :D mouth lol

So how I went about painting the face is -- using a fine brush, I "sketched" the eyes with diluted white acrylic paint, painted in the eye whites in first, then paint the darker colours over. I guess this step results in uneven surface seen on the close ups.

The rubber heads tends to stain if you use darker colour on it directly I find. But the "staining" method is good if you wish to apply blush to the doll ^^ (but it is a difficult technique to get right ^^; )

Right at the end when, I feel okay with the result I apply a clear/matt waterbased varnish over the eyes/eyebrows and mouth.

Below is a limited edition licca I found at Nakano Broadway last year, I named her Nakano lol
She has light pink pearl-ish lipstick ^^ she came with a cute school uniform which was unfortunately not very well made ^^;;;;;

Eyes comparison

Inspired by this post on dannychoo.com, I decided to take some close up pictures of some of the dolls I have to compare the eye painting(s)

I painted 2 faces of my dolls before, and was often rather bothered by how the brush strokes shows up if I look closely ^^;

This is Koko, the doll I made before I acquired my Mamachapp doll :P

I made a Hagu doll, based off Hagu from Honey and Clover anime series :) Ugh need to find a better way to paint it neatly :P

Mamachapp doll also obviously factory painted (machine maybe?)

Just for good measure I include my 2 Licca chans ^^
This is the Vintage 2nd Generation licca

This is a repro 2nd generation :) I may try to repaint her lips as I find her lips a little bit too bright ^^;

Haruhi Nendoroid, different material base doll, but I thought to include her for comparison as well.
Her eyes obviously are factory applied, there's even dithering in the iris part.

I am missing some of the more current liccas which I have (oops) maybe next time :)

Dream doll arrives!

I wanted one of these little stinkers for a while now and when I had a chance to get one from a friend, I HAD TO! lol

After being reassured I'm not having her for lunch or dinner, or any other meals at that, she calmed down and let me take a few pictures...

I noticed that her head is a bit bigger/chubbier than the dolls I tried to make by imitating her ^^; Also my friend told me before that her ears are pretty big as well XD Her clothing is very very well made with very fine lace even I dare say worth every pretty penny :P

They're still chatting noisily like little birds on my desk :)

They have reached their new home with their new owner, who happened to be someone lovely I know XD this is a photo taken by her new owner which I got permission to post up ^^/
So good to see her out and about lol her hair and eyelashes look like they have a story to tell!

I haven't had much dolly time these days, but finally last weekend I took Luna out :)
Don't mind her older get up lol no time to make new clothes and I'm running a bit low on doll funds ^^;

Time sure flies! My husband was reminding me that I haven't updated this site for a while (oops) Sorry about that! ^^; Just been really busy that is all! I do miss my dolly time tho ;_; While I do not have much time to sew very much these days, I still play with my dolls once in a while :) I will be posting some pictures I took of some of my dolls here for now, until I get more time to do sewing again ^^;

On another note, Daisy and Clover has been auctioned off via yahoojapan thru the Princess a la mode Charity Auction and we're very pleased that she's going to a wonderful home in Canada! (WOOHOO!)

Still rather busy with non doll related stuff, but today I have a reason to take some dolly pictures :) Today's model is Isabelle, a Roesy Red (RR) adopted sometime last year from blythou ^^/

this is probably my favourite of the lot, lovely dress by awonderfultreat ^^

Princess a la mode Charity Auction

Daisy and Clover will be auctioned off during the last batch of the Princess a la mode Charity Auction, which is from June 16 - June 22. For more information and details on where the proceeds goes to, be sure to watch blythedoll.com closely!

This year I am unable to take part in the blythe beauty contest due to various personal reasons, I missed Daisy and Clover so much ;_; The experience last year felt like a dream, a wonderful dream at that, I hope to be able to take part again in future! I would like to give heartfelt special thanks to Natsuko and Tibiloo for letting me know of Daisy and Clover's recent status :)

Due to getting more illustration based work coming in, I have a bunch of things to complete and I won't be able to make too much things for Etsy, I may list a handful of items (if I get any done) but I need to finish some of the things at hand o_o;

Meanwhile I will be posting more Photos of the moment when I can ^^/
After the break I hope to also have some time to make more tutorials, so stay tuned!

I am really trilled to get my copy and very happy to see the wonderful animation of Princess a la mode in it, I still remember watching it live at the contest and exhibition and couldn't stop myself weeping as the story strongly tugged my heartstrings!

The DVD includes a demo on how to custom blythe, within the rules for the next "Natural Beauty Contest"! It also feature the finalists of the Beauty contest interview, Princess a la mode Charity Fashion Show, Bahashishi special live performance and more!

Tutorial: Santa's Hat pattern - Printer Free Version!

Dedicated to our santa's little helpers ;)
This pattern is made to fit blythes, feel free to adapt it for other dolls!
You will need to use fabrics with a slight stretch for this particular project. You can also make a sleeping cap from this pattern. Use your imagination! :D

1) Measure the circumference of the doll of your choice. Please note if you intend to make this for a mohair girl the measurement may vary.
I rounded off the measurement to 28cm.

2) With the information, we are ready to start drawing the pattern :)
With a ruler and pencil, draw a line near to the bottom edge of an A4 (or letter size) paper.

3) Mark the line as follows 7cm is derived from 1/4 of the circumference measurement (28cm) I took.

4) Draw a line perpendicular to the first line, from the middle marking, and make another marking about 20cm from the bottom line. Note, if you want a hat with a longer tip, make this marking more than 20cm.

5) Join the markings as shown in the diagram below.

6) Make a marking for 20cm (Or the desired measurement you had decided upon) on each of the lines from the center.

7) Draw a curve line to join the marking as shown below, either by freehand, or have a curved ruler or you can also try to use a plate to help you.

8) Template completed! Make a marking or note to determine a side to place on fold of the fabric you use. As mentioned on the diagram, this pattern does not have a seam allowance specified. If you wish to have a seam allowance to guide you, draw a marking around 05.cm around the edge, omitting the "fold line".

9) Position the pattern on fold of the red fabric.

10) I leave a slight seam allowance as I cut the fabric. Remember not to cut the fold line of the fabric!

11) Open up the red fabric, and cut out a long strip of white fabric -- I used a furry stretchy white fabric, the width of the fabric is about 4cm wide, the length is longer than the circumference of the blythe hat.

To sew with stretchy fabrics, use ball point needles for your machine to ensure best results!

12) Fold the white fabric in half, with the right (furry) part facing outside and place the raw edges on the "wrong" side and curved end of the red fabric. Sew zig-zag to the end of the curve of the red fabric.

Note: This is the "wrong" side of the red fabric.

13) Fold the white fabric towards the "right" side of the red fabric, and sew a top stitch on the "wrong" side of the red fabric. This will join the seam allowance to the "right" side of the red fabric.

14) Fold the white strip such that it sits on the "right" side of the red fabric, and press with an iron.

15) Sew a top stitch by hand or machine to keep the furry end on the right side of the red fabric. Also hiding the seam allowance from step 12.

With a furry fabric, the top stitching is not too obvious

16) Fold the red fabric such that the "wrong" side is facing outwards. The white strip is inside the folded fabric.

17) Join the hat together with zig zag stitch from the "mouth" of the hat -- where the white furry end is, to the peak of the hat.

Tip: to make sure the ends line up, you may wish to hand sew the end first before machine sewing.

Almost complete!

Optional stitch

18) Almost done! Here's the hat, turned inside out such that the "right" side faces outside.
For the finishing touch, add a pompom, or a bell or who knows, a pull-ring to the tip of the peak. Or leave it as is :)

Tutorial: Xmas Stockings - Printer Free Version!

Time sure flies! We know Christmas is coming very soon by all the decorations around, and Christmas themed music playing at the malls and such!

Make some Xmas Stockings for your dolls!

1) First borrow a leg from your blythe doll, and sketch a loose "stocking" shape around it.

2) Use a pen to draw the final shape of the paper pattern.

3) Cut out the pattern, the top part is optional, you can use a lace bit for that part as well.

4) Cut out an assortment of the materials you wish to use. I am using some felt and lace trim for this tutorial. This is also the time to add stuff like embroidery or decorative beads.

5) Start a blanket stitch, poke the needle through from the underside of the top piece, sewing until up to the slight bend.

6) Position the lace trim on the edge of the "hole" of the socking, sewing the edge of the lace under the underside of the stocking.

7) Sew the top of the lace around the "hole" of the stocking with small stitches, and the other edge of the lace behind the underside of the stocking. End the stitch at the underside (as shown in picture below)

8) Continue sewing around the stocking from where we left off at the "bend" until you reach the other end leaving the "hole" of the stocking open. Add a ribbon loop by hand stitching to the inside of the stocking. I used bits of 3mm satin ribbon approximately 8 cm long.

Completed!

Use your imagination to make a great assortment of Xmas stockings, feel free to do it in any size you like! Make some for your dolls or your friend's dolls!

Tutorial: Halloween Paper Wings - Printer Free Version!

Happy Halloween!
I realized that not everyone has a working printer at home, so I came up with a step by step tutorial to make a customized "printer-free" template if you wish to make some wings in a similar fashion from the previous tutorial. You can use your imagination to create some unique wings for your dolls, even after halloween! :)

1) To make the template, draw a line using a ruler and pencil near the side of a piece of paper.

2) Make 2 markings of about 2 cm apart on first line, leave some space to draw the wing around later on.

3) Draw a line approximately 1.5 cm perpendicular to the first line, originating from the lower marking.

4) Draw a line approximately 1.3 cm perpendicular to the top marking of the first line.

5) Join the ends of the 2 shorter lines, you can draw dashes to represent a fold line later on.

6) Draw a line about 1 cm long with 2 shorter strokes at the end to represent the "slits" to be made.

7) Draw shape of the wing you would like to create for your doll(s) It can be any other shapes you can think of :) Let your imagination run wild!

8) Now you have your very own paper template! It will be even more special, if you have created it using your own ideas ;)

9) Cut out the wing template and continue from step 3 of the previous tutorial!

Make some for your own dolls, or as a present for your friends' dolls! :D

Tutorial: Halloween Paper Wings

Halloween is approaching fast! When I saw what puchicollective had came up with for the festivities, I was very inspired! With permission, I present to you this little freebie from puppy52doll as well :)

Hopefully this pictorial tutorial will allow you to make a little something for you and your dolls' enjoyment!

This template will fit blythes, Lati yellow and dolls with similar shoulder size and height.

1) Save this template onto your computer, and print it out using a picture editing program.

2) Pick one design and cut it out, or cut all of them out ;D

3) Have a selection of card stock or vanguard sheet ready, regular paper may be a little too soft for this purpose. I am using a plain card stock for easier demonstration.
I am also using a selection of 3mm satin ribbon, but you can use any type of decorative ribbons as well.

4) Fold the card of choice and position the template on the fold of paper where it is marked.

5) If you're impatient like me or have a steady hand, you can carefully cut around the template while holding it in position, or if you do not feel so confident, trace with a pencil the shape of the "wing" then cut it. Erase the pencil marks later on.

6) Using a pen knife or exacto knife, carefully cut the through the template and card along the numerical order and direction of the numbered red arrows as seen on the picture below; to make slits for the ribbon. Remember to use a cutting mat or something thick to protect your work table!

7) After the slits are made, thread the ribbon (around 35-40cm long, trim the excess later if neccessary) through the holes. The 2nd picture shows the ribbon positioning better.

After adjusting the ribbon, it will look like this.

When worn on a Lati yellow, it will look like this at the back.

At completion, you can the decorate the wings with stickers beads or even drawings -- use your imagination. Have fun and be safe on Halloween!

The newest feature of the contents on site is a step by step tutorial, the first one for a Blythe Doll Camisole as seen after this post. I hope to add more in future, feedback are welcome!

The coming weekend from the 5th to 8th is a long weekend for us in Canada, so I'll be mostly away from my desk, unable to sew, so please bear with me!

Tutorial: Sewing a Simple Camisole

This is a pattern for Blythes. It is one of the first patterns I made when I got my first blythe! The end product will fit Licca dolls or similar size dolls as well.

1) Save this pattern onto your computer, and print it out using a picture editing program.

2) To make sure your print out is the right size, measure with a ruler to check if the line near the fold line is 5.5 cm.

3) Cut pattern out.

4) Place fold line of pattern on fold of fabric.

5) Holding the pattern on the fabric, cut around fabric carefully with a sharp scissors around the pattern.
Important: do not cut the fold!

6) Variation: If you place the bottom of the pattern along the edge of the fabric which doesn't fray, you do not need to sew that part later on.
The edge of the fabric I used has a furry white trim for this instance, this variation can be applied on a fabric with a lace edge as well.

7) Sew zig zag stitch around the seam allowance, this helps prevents fraying.

If needed, trim off any excess "fly away" threads.

8) Tip: Before sewing the top stitching, press the seam allowances in place, this makes it easier to sew the top stitching.

When sewing a topstitch, use an unpicker to help tuck corners down where our fingers cannot.
Our fingers are too big to hold those tricky bits in place while it moves along under the pressure foot of the sewing machine.

Tip: Practice sewing very slowly on scraps of cotton before doing it on the actual piece.
Have your hand ready to stop the handwheel of the sewing machine especially when nearing the corner.

This is how the front of the bodice should look like when top stitching completed.

9) Position the strap by aligning it closely to the paper pattern (for this case, we use a skinny satin ribbon for the strap) and secure it temporarily with a pin.

10) Hand stitch the strap in place.
Hand stitching is helpful for details which require precision.

11) Leave enough length as Halter ties, for a simple halter top and sew on fasteners - dolly velcro, or snaps.

Snaps are more commonly found in craft stores.

12) To attach the straps with precision, position each strap on the doll with pins. I would recommend sewing the fastenings at the back last.

Tops completed! :D Feel free to add lace or buttons, or even pockets as desired!

Final product on a blythe doll. Please note, this is just a "how to" and only one way to make a simple top, there is definitely many different way to make and present it. I hope it helps if you wish to try your hand at something simple for your blythe or licca dolls! :D
